Instructions

The first time you visit Strolling.com you will either accept an ActiveX control or install a plug-in, depending on your browser. This is a once only procedure. Since accepting the ActiveX control is the simpler of the two options, we recommend you browse the site with Internet Explorer if you have it on your system. Mac users must use Internet Explorer.

NAVIGATING

The Map
Stroll around New York by clicking on these icons. They are clickable links to the virtual tour views. Click once on any icon and you'll be taken to that location.

The Views
Click and drag inside the view: you can look around a 360 degree view in any direction by clicking on the image itself with the mouse and keeping the button pressed as you move it.

Downloading
Each view loads in "waves" of progressive sharpness. Let each view load fully so that it's cached properly on your hard disk in case you come back to it.

Downloading the ActiveX control
When you start to download your first image the ActiveX control will also start to download, and after 30 seconds or so a certificate will appear. Click Yes.

With some versions of Internet Explorer you may need to set your security level to Medium.
Here's how:
Click on View on the top of your screen. On the drop-down menu click on Options... Then click on Security. Then click on Safety Level... Then click on Medium.

Netscape
A plug-in is available for Netscape. Save it to your Netscape plug-ins folder. (The path is usually C:\Program Files\Netscape\Communicator\Program\Plugins.)
The procedure is as follows: By clicking on the plug-in link at the bottom of this panel you will be presented with the following box:

Click Save File and you will get this box:

Click OK and you get the box below. Open your Plugins folder in Netscape/Program or similar path.
IMPORTANT STEP: Change the file extension from .exe to .dll before pressing Save.

Now restart Netscape.

Click here to download the plug-in.
